The Town of Blacksburg has partnered with engineering consulting firm AECOM to develop a Flood Resilience Plan that will guide plans for reducing flood risk and better prepare our community for future flooding. The plan will identify areas of Blacksburg that are vulnerable to flooding, prioritize projects to address those risks, and outline strategies to help the Town prepare for, respond to, and recover from flood events.

To create this plan, we need your help: If you have experienced flooding at your home, business, or anywhere along your regular travel routes, we want to hear from you. Your input will help us better understand where flooding occurs and identify areas that may require additional data collection, flood studies, or flood mitigation projects.

This project has three main ways to provide input.

  1. Take the Flood Resilience Plan Survey: If you have experienced flooding at your home, business, or property, or have observed it around town, we invite you to share the details of your experiences by completing the Flood Resilience Plan survey. The results will directly help to shape Blacksburg's future flood resilience plan. This survey will be available until Friday, November 6 at 5pm.
  2. Identify Areas of Concern on the Flood Experience Map: Using the interactive map, drop a pin in a location of your choosing to identify areas of town that you have observed as being vulnerable to flooding events.
  3. Attend the Public Input Meeting: Meet with the project team to discuss survey findings, to hear more about this project, and to share your input on Thursday, October 29 from 5-7pm
    at the Blacksburg Community Center.

By sharing your experiences, you can help guide future investments and make Blacksburg more resilient to flooding.
