Is the project intended to address bike/pedestrian improvements to the area, or will traffic flow for the entire intersection be addressed?
The central objective of this project is to enhance bicycle and pedestrian mobility through the existing interchange area by incorporating a 10-foot wide Shared Use Path.
Potential future interchange modifications to accommodate traffic growth are also being studied to ensure compatibility of a new Shared Use Path through the interchange area.
What does a traffic analysis measure?
Traffic analysis efforts are currently ongoing in this area and will help determine the effectiveness of the proposed interchange improvements to improve traffic operations. The traffic analysis will also measure vehicular delays, queues, and operational level of service in the project area.
What is the projected start date for construction?
If project funding is received from the Virginia Department of Transportation, construction could begin in approximately five (5) years.
What is the projected completion date for construction?
The anticipated duration of project construction is two (2) years from the project start date.
Will traffic on Prices Fork Road be impacted by construction?
Project construction will impact traffic but will be minimized as much as practically possible.
The project design will include detailed traffic maintenance plans that provide guidance for project construction and safe passage of traffic through the affected area. This plan will likely include temporary lane and shoulder closures.
What specifics of the proposed designs are known right now?
This project is still in its initial conceptual planning phase. As such, the specific details of the proposed designs are not known at this time. Attending the public engagement meeting in March is a great way to learn more about the conceptual designs. More information about this public meeting will be posted on this page soon.
Why is the Prices Fork/460 Interchange the only location being considered for this project?
This area was identified as a high priority for bicycle and pedestrian safety in the 2017 Prices Fork Safety and Mobility Study. There will be additional projects in other locations for bicycle and pedestrian safety in the future.
Why is the bridge over the 460-East ramp designed as a dogleg rather than a straight crossing in Option B Plus?
