ReCode Blacksburg - Development Ordinance Update

ReCode Blacksburg is the Town’s initiative to modernize its Development Code to better reflect today’s needs, values, and future vision. Through this effort, the Town is working to:

• Expand the range of housing choices to meet the needs of all members of the Blacksburg community
• Support sustainable, well-designed growth that enhances neighborhood character and resilience
• Create a clearer, more predictable development process that is easier for residents, property owners, and businesses to navigate
• Modernize regulations to better respond to current challenges and opportunities
• Balance preservation with thoughtful, forward-looking change

This work is about more than revising regulations, it is about shaping opportunity.

Many elements of the Town’s current zoning framework make it difficult to deliver the kinds of housing, neighborhood patterns, and investments in public amenities that residents consistently say they want. Through the ReCode initiative, Blacksburg is inviting homeowners, renters, local businesses, institutions, students, and community organizations to help chart a better path forward.
