The Town of Blacksburg has proposed changes within the existing Town right-of-way on the western side of Eheart Street in coordination with upcoming street repaving. The eastern side of the cycle track was previously designed and approved as part of the Midtown development project. Combined, the project will create a continuous bicycle route from Willard Drive and the surrounding area to the Huckleberry Trail and its numerous destinations. This provides important infrastructure for the biking community that does not currently exist.
The main project features are:
Buffered two-way bicycle travel from Preston Avenue to Main Street
Continuous two-way separated bicycle travel from Preston Avenue to Willard Drive
One-way vehicular travel from Preston Avenue to Main Street, exiting towards the Main Street traffic signal
Bicycle signal phase at the traffic signal for safe crossing of Main Street
All-way stop added at Draper Road and Preston Avenue intersections
On-street parking maintained from Draper Road to Main Street and from the Huckleberry Trail to Preston Avenue
Driveways and alley access maintained throughout the project area
Two-way shared street markings (sharrows) from the Huckleberry Trail to Preston Avenue
The graphics below show the roadway changes starting on the east (Main Street) and ending on the west (the Huckleberry Trail) in three segments.
