Project Overview
Community volunteers built the Hand-in-Hand wooden playground on Turner Street in Municipal Park in 1992. The 30-year-old structure brought joy and entertainment to many children but has experienced much wear and tear and needs to be brought up to current national safety standards.
Leathers & Associates, the same company that helped design the original playground has worked with the Town to design and install a new custom-designed destination playground using modern materials. This playground will continue to serve ages 2-12 and will include benches and small tabletops throughout the playground, along with wood chips (made of engineered wood fiber) as its base.
The demolition of the current wooden structure began on March 1, 2023. The grand opening of the new playground was on May 30th, 2023 @ 11 am, just in time for summer fun.
Project Engagement
Last year the Town conducted a two-phased community engagement process to gather input and guide the design of the new Hand-in-Hand playground. Thank you to all the community members that participated in the two playground surveys, uploaded example ideas, and participated in our interactive engagement event on Saturday, August 27th, 2022. We received over 600 responses from interested community members. This summary report includes the results from the first phase of community engagement and this summary report consists of the feedback received in the second phase regarding the overall design and layout, the proposed playground features, and the proposed color scheme of the two initial playground design concepts. Please see responses to some of the most frequently asked questions in the FAQ section on the right-hand side of this project page.
The Town is thankful for all the community feedback received and is now excited to share the new playground with the community!
