A New Retail Incubator is Coming to Downtown Blacksburg

What Is The Local @414?

Big things are happening at 414 N. Main Street (formerly Cook’s Cleaners). Opening Fall 2026, The Local @414 is a new retail incubator and community hub created through a partnership between the Town of Blacksburg and Downtown Blacksburg Inc. (DBI).

Designed to support emerging small businesses while enriching the downtown experience, The Local @414 will provide affordable storefront space and hands-on business support in the heart of Downtown Blacksburg.

At its core, The Local @414 Retail Incubator will offer:

• Affordable retail storefront space for new and growing businesses

• Tailored technical assistance and access to business resources

• Ongoing mentorship and marketing support to help entrepreneurs launch and scale successfully

Beyond retail, the space is envisioned as a vibrant, multi-use community destination featuring:

• A café

• Flexible event and meeting space, including a reception area, conference room, and kitchen available for public rental

• A Visitor & Resident Information Hub with maps, brochures, and event information

• Year-round programming designed to foster collaboration and connection

This initiative represents a significant investment in local entrepreneurship and reflects the shared commitment of DBI and the Town to strengthening the local economy and enhancing the vitality of Downtown Blacksburg.

Free Business Planning Workshop Series – April 2026

To strengthen the broader small business community, including aspiring entrepreneurs, early-stage startups, and existing Blacksburg businesses, DBI and the Town are partnering with America’s SBDC Virginia – Greater Roanoke & NRV to offer a free four-week Business Planning Workshop Series this April.

This interactive series walks entrepreneurs step-by-step through building a strong, sustainable business. Participants will develop a clear vision and mission, conduct market and competitor research, define their value proposition and business model, outline marketing and operations strategies, and build foundational financial projections — all culminating in a draft business plan and pitch-ready presentation.
